WELCOME MESSAGE

It feels great to say “Welcome” to the annual Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl Kickoff Luncheon! It’s hard to believe it will be two years since we last hosted guests at an event. While we were happy to play our game in 2020, it just wasn’t the same without the bands, cheerleaders, and fans in the stadium. We are thrilled to welcome fans back, including having you here today at our official first event of the year.

2021 will be remembered as the year our bowl went to another level. In July we announced a multi-year agreement with Barstool Sports to be our title sponsor and broadcast partner. We are excited for you to learn more about our relationship with Barstool Sports, the third-largest sports media company in the country, and our vision to host a series of events designed to boost our local economy, increase our giveback to local charities, and provide an amazing experience for fans and student-athletes from the Mountain West and MAC.

Thank you for showing your support and attending our luncheon. Tickets to the game are on sale now. Get them today and we’ll see you on Dec. 31 at noon!

CEO BARSTOOL SPORTS

ERIKA NARDINI

Erika Nardini is Barstool Sports’ first CEO. She is a seasoned executive with a tremendous track record of building digital businesses, developing culturally relevant brands, and pioneering distribution and monetization.

In July 2016, Erika beat out 70+ men to become the first CEO of Barstool Sports and has since grown the company from a regional brand to a reputable and disruptive digital powerhouse. Since joining Barstool, the company has experienced explosive brand and business growth as one of the fastest growing lifestyle brands on the internet. She has led the company in generating revenue from multiple business lines including merchandise, advertising, licensing, and experiential. Today, Barstool Sports drives 1.6 billion social views, 1.7B monthly video views, and 5.9 million listeners across its platforms.

In less than 5 years, Erika has grown the company from a regional blog with 12 employees to a national multimedia force with over 300 employees, while profitably increasing revenue 1200%. Under her tenure, Barstool has become a top ten podcasting publisher in the US (Podtrac) with the world’s #1 sports podcast, #1 hockey podcast, #1 golf podcast, and a top 5 in entertainment. It is now one of the fastest-growing sports brands on every social platform, third-most engaged sports publisher on social (Shareablee Sept 2021), sixth Most Viewed Sports Creator across Facebook and YouTube (Tubular June 2021), and a Top 5 publisher on TikTok with 90+ personalities.

Erika has launched over 35 brands, including breakout franchises in sports, entertainment, female lifestyle, business, and sports betting. Erika was integral in spearheading a strategic partnership with casino operator Penn National Gaming, valuing the company at $450 million. Under her tenure, Barstool Sports and Spittin’ Chiclets launched the #1 selling flavored vodka in North America and Canada, Pink Whitney.

Since the partnership was announced in January 2020, Barstool Sportsbook and Casino has become one of the leading interactive gaming platforms in Pennsylvania in October 2020 and in January of 2021 in Michigan where it was the only major operator to generate positive net revenue ($1.6M).

Prior to joining Barstool Sports, Erika has held C-Suite and leading roles at Microsoft, AOL, Demand Media, and Yahoo. She currently sits on the board of the WWE and Torchy’s Tacos. She has been named Forbes’ Most Powerful Women in the U.S. in Sports, Crain’s Notable Women In Sports Recipient, AdWeek’s Most Powerful Women in Sports, Cynopsis’ Top Women in Media, and a top player in the U.S. Betting Space and Podcasting by Business Insider. Erika also conceived, created and hosts Token CEO, a business podcast within the Barstool Sports Network.

BASEBALL HALL OF FAME CLASS OF ’18
UARIZONA BASEBALL STUDENT-ATHLETE (1987-89)

TREVOR HOFFMAN

“Master of a mystifying change-up, became the first pitcher to reach the 500- and 600-save milestones.” That is the first sentence on Trevor Hoffman’s Baseball Hall of Fame plaque. It’s more than an answer to a trivia question. It’s an accomplishment that vindicates those who believe Trevor is the great closer of all time.

Trevor’s journey to Cooperstown included a stop here in Tucson when he starred for the Wildcats as a shortstop, batting .371 in his junior year. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in 1989 and transitioned from infielder to pitcher. He joined the Florida Marlins in 1992 via the 8th pick of the MLB expansion draft and a year later was off to San Diego as part of a massive trade for Gary Sheffield.

It was with the San Diego Padres where Trevor blossomed into a bonafide superstar. In his time with the Padres, he was named an all-star in 1998, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2006, and 2007. He led the National Leagues in saves in 1998 and 2006 and won the National League Rolaids Relief Man Award in each of those seasons. 1998 was arguably his best season when he set career bests for ERA (1.48) and saves (53), finished second in the Cy Young voting, finished seventh in MVP voting, and helped the Padres reach the World Series.

On Sept. 24, 2006, Trevor would become the MLB all-time leader in saves when he closed the door on the Pirates in the Padres’ final home game of the season. He finished his career with the Milwaukee Brewers, retiring from baseball in 2011. Later in 2011, the Padres retired his #51 and he was elected to the Arizona Athletics Sports Hall of Fame. In 2014 MLB introduced the Trevor Hoffman Reliever of the Year Award which is given to the best National League relief pitcher.  He received the ultimate honor when he was inducted in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2018.

As great as a player he was on the field, he is even a better person off it. Professionalism, character, and class are words commonly used to associate Trevor by those who interact with him. Trevor currently works for the Padres front office and resides in the San Diego area.
